Herbal anxiety remedies

Many people around the world are turning to herbal anxiety remedies due to the side effects associated with the regular prescription medicines. Medical prescriptions for anxiety have also been reported to be addictive in nature, and those who use the pills have formed a habit of taking them even when they do not need them. On the other hand, herbal remedies are natural and do not put patients at risk of addiction or side effects. The following are some of the most effective herbal anxiety remedies:

Valerian extract

This herb contains valerenic acid, which is effective anxiety relief. The scientific name for valerian is Valeriana officinalis. Besides mild anxiety, this herbal anxiety remedy can cure insomnia. However, the concentration of the valerenic acid should not exceed 0.8 per cent. It is advisable to take this extract four times a day at regular intervals.

This natural cure is available in the form of tea, liquid supplements and capsule.  If you have concerns with the smell of valeriana, you can go for the capsules instead of the tea and liquid. For best results, use this herbal remedy at least 60 minutes before going to bed. If this is not possible, ensure that you get some rest after taking the drug. You should experience changes at least 3 weeks after the first dose. However, you are advised to beware of contraindication symptoms such as headache, palpitations, indigestion and dizziness. Avoid sedatives or any form of antihistamine while on velariana dosage. Avoid this drug if you are recovering from a surgical operation, unless you are under the supervision of a physician.

Green tea

Green tea is rich in L-theanine, an acid that is known to cure anxiety. This acid has been used in various prescription medicines for anxiety, and can be taken directly from the herb.

Passion flower

This is another effective herbal anxiety remedy. Scientifically known as Passiflora incarnate, it is also an effective remedy to insomnia. The active component is vitexin. It is advisable to check the concentration levels of vitexin in a passion flower extract before you begin your dosage. The recommended amount of vitexin in an ideal passion flower dose is 3-4 per cent. To get better results, blend it with valerian. When used properly, Passiflora incarnate is able to work like mexazolam as well as benzodiazepine drugs.

In case you experience drowsiness, nausea, vomiting or rapid heartbeat, it is advisable to discontinue use. Children and expectant mothers are advised to consult a doctor before taking this herbal supplement. In addition, people on Passiflora incarnate dosage should avoid sedatives as much as possible, unless under the supervision of a physician.


Scents from various herbal plants are effective cure for anxiety. Cypress, lavender, rose, bergamot, geranium, ylang-ylang, Melissa, jasmine and sandalwood are some of the herbs that have proven effective in the treatment of anxiety when used in bath water. Massage oils that contain extracts from these plants are also effective anxiety remedies. For best results, use two or more of these plants every time you are taking a bath. Make sure there is enough vapor to relax your nervous system.
