Denver Satellite Patent Office Announced

A USPTO (United State Patent and Trademark Office) press release today stated that Denver is slated to have a satellite patent office. The press release is short on details, such as when the office will be established, how many examiners will be employed, and what art areas these examiners will work. Two other cities were selected for satellite offices – San Jose and Dallas. I and others have argued that satellite patent offices will be helpful in hiring and retaining quality technical 
talent as patent examiners. In addition, satellite patent offices place examiners near the location where invention is occurring. This is one of the few positive things to come out of the AIA. Unfortunately this will hardly compensate for the damage that will result once the AIA is completely implemented.
Detroit was another location promised. Satellite offices were another method of getting support for the bill from members of congress from those states.
